The Bashamichi, Kannai, and Nihon-ōdōri areas still maintain the look of Yokohama back in 1859 when the port was opened. The retro looking Western buildings and the historic feeling streets are very fun. This area is a perfect fit for people who want to get a taste of the calm and tranquil atmosphere.

You can move smoothly between the areas while enjoying the view of the port town of Yokohama from above the sea. There are 1 to 2 boats in operation each hour. You also can find a detailed timetable on the official homepage. The entrance fee is different for each area. One area is about 350 to 420 yen.

Leaving from Nihon-ōdōri Station, the Pier Akarenga platform is the closest and it will be just a 10 minute walk to your destination.

Elephant Nose Park got its name because its shape resembles an elephant’s nose when looking at the seawall from above. “Elephant’s Nose Terrace” in the middle of the park, is a place where you can rest. There is free Wi-Fi and a cafe that has meals. So, let’s have a break while enjoying the events held there every day.

I recommend that you buy the soft-serve ice cream there that they sell in the shape of an elephant. You are free to walk around the park at will. “Elephant’s Nose Terrace” is open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. It is open all year round and there is no entrance fee.

The Factory Night Cruise is a tour for seeing the night view of different factory areas from the top of the boat, such as the Keihin industrial area. The navigator will happily guide you around during this tour. The illumination of the factories suddenly appears from the darkness like a space station from a fantasy. The chimney blowing flames out from the industrial area packs a punch.

Although there are many companies doing cruises, the one being introduced to you now is said to be the cheapest. It is the “Industrial Area Night View Minato Mirai Cruise”. The cruise leaves at 7:30 pm and you can enjoy a 1 hour and 20 minute ride.
